The Project requires students to conduct an investigation on the Modern Masters and major influences that led to its development and in turn its influence in other architectural aspects.
In a group of 5, we selected Villa Mairea designed by Alvar Aalto as our research topic. Some general information, concept and architectural details had been conducted and shown in a A2 presentation board.
Analytical Essay
Continuing from Part A, students are to explore and study the continuation of the chosen Modern Master from Part A.
We were required to write a comparison analytical essay individually with different topic. After discussion, we decided to make comparison between Villa Mairea - Alvar Aalto and Barcelona Pavilion - Mies Van der Rohe.
The topic i had chosen was Massing and Form.
Throughout the project, I had learnt about architectural theory through a consideration of intentions, concepts, patterns, disciplines, architectural language and contextual relationships. Furthermore, I also understood issues involved in the interrelationship between theory and design as exemplified in various historical periods and places.
